About Me

I see myself as an artist, and my medium is touch.

I express my creativity through touching bodies and touching lives. I love what I do. I am passionate about being a conduit for healing. I love to feel tight muscle soften because of the way I communicate with them through my touch. I love to hear others gain some new insight into themselves because we have explored together. I love seeing people make their lives more of what they want, and knowing that I have contributed to it in some way. I love helping people have more freedom in their bodies and in their lives.

I am a person who needs variety, which is probably why I offer so many, varied techniques. And this is why each session with me, of whatever description- massage- RSM- or energy healing, is unique.

My Background and Training.

I received my BS in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. I have been working as an RN from then until December of 2007, when I decided it was time to devote myself full time to my practice. The majority of my nursing career was spent in a field called Home Health, helping others, and their families to learn about their health challenges; disease processes, injuries, surgeries, etc, and about how to manage them.

That need for variety, most likely, led me to study Massage Therapy. As an RN, I also missed the hands-on aspect of human interaction. I had even considered stepping into the Nurses Aid role, to have greater contact with my patients. But the Massage Therapy training met that need for contact. I have been gradually increasing how much time I devoted to massage since I completed training at the Virginia School of Massage and became nationally certified in Massage Therapy in 1995. I have maintained Virginia's certification for Massage Therapy since the state's inception of that program.

In 2001 I attended a workshop given by Ilana Rubenfeld, to see if I was interested in pursuing training into Rubenfeld Synergy. I had read about Rubenfeld Synergy, or RSM, in a book called Body Work, by Thomas Clair years before. This book is available at Fauquier County Public Library, if you are interested. I had actually sent away for information about the training after reading that book, but decided it was too much for me, and my family, at that time. I went to the workshop, and became convinced, because of my own experiences with the work, that it was the real thing, everything I thought it was, and more. I signed up for the training after that, and every week or weekend of training I had for the next 4 years, left me feeling lighter, freer, more open and more myself. I have had nearly 100 RSM sessions of my own, and in each one I have learned a new facet of myself. I never knew I was so fascinating and wonderful!

Now onto the energy healing part of the story. I learned Therapeutic Touch through the AIDS program at Fairfax Hospital in the early 90's.This was while I was still a Home Health Nurse, before I even considered massage therapy school. Therapeutic Touch involves sensing the human energy field that surrounds the body, noting variations and smoothing the energy field with the hands until variations are no longer noticed. Since it does not involve actually physical contact, I was given the go ahead by my director to try TT, as it is called, on interested Home Health patients. One patient, who had not slept for days, fell asleep during TT, and began to sleep more regularly with my doing TT at each Home Health visit. Another patient, dying of cancer, was especially interested, and experienced a remarkable degree of pain relief and less need for pain medication. Pretty encouraging results! I cant say why, but I fell away from offering TT to my Home Health patients. Probably I had a few that looked at me like I was crazy, and it discouraged me. Still, I had the kind of positive experiences with TT that you don't forget. And, after I learned Massage Therapy, I began to add a little TT at the end of sessions as a kind of reinforcement.

I took Reiki I sometime after I completed massage school. If you would like to read more about Reiki, here is a link you could check out, Reiki.com.My massage clients started telling me that they could feel a lot of heat coming from my hands after that, and I would sometimes include a little Reiki if I knew that my clients were open to it, and they were having a challenging time. I only started to offer Reiki sessions this year, after one of my weekly massage clients came to me after a bad fall and massage was not appropriate. I gave her a Reiki session instead, and at the end of her time she told me she no longer had any pain from the fall. And at her next session she reported that she had remained free of pain from her fall. She had been expecting to be really stiff and sore the next day, and it never happened. This kind of information is hard to ignore! So, now I offer Reiki as one of my services.

Then last, but certainly not least, I have completed the Advanced Level training in ThetaHealing. For more about this amazing technique, please visit the founder's website, http//ThetaHealing.com or my page, Energy Healing.
