My trip
My husband,Jesse, son Jason, and I went to Jerusalem in early December (08) to visit with his parents and his brother and wife. They have lived in Israel for about 10 years. For them it is an ideal place, except for the fighting of course. They are Orthodox Jews, which means that there culture includes very specific dietary rules and very strict rules for their sabbath which starts on Friday at sundown. In Israel most of the restaurants and almost all businesses adhere to Orthodox rules. In other countries, like the USA, Orthodox Jews have difficulty with work schedules- they have to be home before sundown on Friday, never work on Saturday until after sundown. And there is hardly a restaurant, outside of Orthodox communities, that they can eat at. Now, I don't know about you, but for me that would be awful! So my in laws have a lot more freedom in their daily lives in Israel.
The lion is the symbol of the city of Jerusalem. I call it the Jerusalion. These two lovely Jerusalion statues have their tails intertwined and sit on the border of a fountain not far from the old city. The old city is my favorite part of Jerusalem. I get a kick out of the pictures of the walled city, with the satellite dishes topping nearly every building.
